Postponement of the election of the DPFS role in the Leadership Elections

On Tuesday 4 February, Union Council voted to postpone the election of the Deputy President (Finance and Services) - DPFS role, pending the outcome of an independent Democracy Review.

The Democracy Review [led by an external consultancy working with Imperial College Union (ICU) students and staff] is likely to recommend that the Board and Union Council review the DPFS role, to enhance ICU's ability and effectiveness to represent student opinions within the union and views to the university.

As it was anticipated there may be significant changes to this position, Union Council voted with a clear majority to postpone this particular election so as not to delay ICU's ability to enact changes recommended by the review.

Another position of this nature, or a different position altogether (depending on the outcome of the review) may be elected in the Summer Elections if Union Council and the Trustee Board agree that any such role is required.

We look forward to updating students on the Democracy Review in due course.
